- Summary: Carmel Welsh Independant Chapel was built in 1880 and later modified with the adition of a rear vestry in 1895, a new organ in 1910 and in 1996 when the facade was rebuilt following mining subsidance . The present facade which dates to the 1996 rebuilding, is constructed in the Classical style, with a gable-entry type, probably directly relating to the 1880 chapel, and retains the original datestone of 1880. Carmel is now Grade 2 Listed for it's "exceptional 4-sided gallery, painted organ, carved pulpit and other fine fittings".
RCAHMW, July 2010 - Description: Built in 1880, modified, altered or rebuilt 1895, 1910 and 1996. Built in the Classical style, gable entry type. Present status [1997]: Chapel RCCEORBWM of 1905 states that Carmel has accomodation for 150 at associated schools and mission rooms.
Main walls square rough dressed stonework. Roofs of timber framing clad with Welsh slate. Building subject to extensive repairs & renovations. The gable façade having been dismantled & completely rebuilt, the repairs taking 2 years to complete & reopening in May 1997. Notes from I D Jones 05/1997.
In 1996 the façade was rebuilt following mining subsidence, and each facing stone was numbered and replaced as before, with blockwork behind under plaster. The N. side windows were then replaced in plastic (information from Cadw list description of 18/02/1999). - Built: 1881 Source:RCCEORBWM

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
