- Summary: Gilead Methodist Chapel was built in 1833, rebuilt in 1856 rebuilt again in 1866. The present chapel, dated 1866, is built in the Simple Round-Headed and Sub-Classical style of the gable-entry type.
RCAHMW, March 2010 - Description: First chapel built 1833; [re)built/modified 1855/6 & 1865/6. Building style is simple round-headed and Sub-Classical style, gable entry type. Status (1999): in chapel use.
A single storey chapel in Rennaissance style. Pitched slate roof. West front has plain gable with centre datestone and projecting cornice. Datestone reads"GILIEAD/ADEILADWYD 1855/AILADEILADWYR 1866". Below cornice wall is pebble-dashed with stressed cement quoins. Central recessed bay contains square headed door with tripartite round headed lights under segmental arch, Stressed cement architraves. Two long round headed windows either side central bay. Two sides pebble-dashed with stressed cement quoins at front, and three long round headed windows. End wall flat cement render with no features.
Interior. Central door opens into interior wood vestibule with opposing side doors into chapel. Central leaded coloured glass window into chapel. Chapel ceiling has six large recessed plaster panels, each with a circular rose. Walls - painted plaster with ashlar finish, wood dado. Floor - carpet over wood boards.
Sedd fawr - Rectangular with two side entrances, balustraded sides with squared balusters and newel posts, latter topped with globe finials. Internal bench.
Pulpit - bow fronted with three panels containing trefoil arches. Front facing steps either side. Reredos of rectangular wooden panels filled with diagonal t&g.
Memorial plaque south of reredos - copper - in memory of Parch W E Williams, 1854 - 1938.
Pedal organ converted to electric - 15 stops.
Separate chapel house - double pile 2 storey with rear wing which contains school room above reached by external stair. Blocked fireplace. 8 original desks and benches.

Rendered walls, slate roof. 3 arched windows with glazing bars in side elevations. My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
