- Summary: Ebenezer Independent Chapel was first built in 1749, rebuilt in 1800 and again in 1869. The present chapel, dated 1869, is built in the Classical style of the gable-entry type and with a large arch in the facade, and was designed by architect Thomas Thomas of Landore. The chapel has an attached house and school/vestry.
RCAHMW, March 2010 - Description: Chapel first built 1748/9; a single storey straw roofed building. Rebuilt ca.1800 & 1869/70. Building style is Classical, gable entry type. A prominent feature of this Chapel is the large arch in the façade. Status (1999): in chapel use.
Single storey Italian Renaissance style Independent chapel. Main axis of chapel approximately orientated north-south. Pitched slate roof with ceramic ridge tiles and cement render coping to raking cornices at gables. All windows are round headed with recessed moulded wood "Y" tracery.
North gable front: Painted rendered elevation of 3 bays, projecting moulded pediment resting on 4 stressed plain pilasters, block bases and block capitals with moulded abaci; base cornice of pediment rises to form round headed arch to central bay; the arched entablature architrave has inscription, "EBENEZER + ADEILADWYD + 1749 + AIL + ADEILADWYD + 1869 +"; recessed central bay - arch contains round headed window, stressed shouldered architrave with stressed rock-rusticated keystone and bracketed sill band; below is rounded arch doorway, stressed jambs and moulded archivault with rock rusticated keystone and moulded imposts; recessed within arch is round headed double door, each door of 2 panels with bolection moulding; flanking bays have single round headed windows with details as described above.
East and west side elevations: pebble-dashed with 3 plain round headed windows, projecting limestone sills; beneath each, rectangular arabesque style iron ventilation grill.
Chapel house and school/vestry attached to south gable end.
Interior: vestibule - plaster walls and ceiling. Slate slab floor, huge slab with recessed step to exterior entrance. Wall opposite entrance has inscribed brass plaque in nowy headed frame, "GYFERBYN A'R LLECH HON Y GORWEDD / CORPH WILLIAM PRITCHARD / TENANT GYNT YN NGLHWEDDERNOG - BU FARW Y 9ed DYDD O FAWRTH YN Y FLWYDDYN 1773 / EI OED 71 / GODDEFODD Y GWR HWN LAWER O ERLID TRAIS A DIRMYG / GAN ANNUWIOLION O ACHOS CREFYDD / A DUWIOLDEB OND TRWY GYMMORTH DUW FE / EI ORPHENODD EI DYMMOR YN ORFOLEDDUS." Opposing side entrances with panelled double doors lead into main body of chapel to either side of set fawr. Exterior of vestibule has projecting upper cornice at sill height of central window in north gable wall.
Main interior - panelled ceiling of 3 longitudinal bays, sloping side bays with rectangular ventilation grills to either end. Moulded cornice to false ashlar finished walls. Rounded window openings have splayed reveals and slightly projecting sloped wood sills. Straight stop-chamfer to outer edges of window jambs. Rectangular wall ventilators. Right side of south wall is four-panelled door, steps down to chapel house beyond.
Pews have stop-chamfered panelled backs and gates, rounded top rails, and chamfered disc finials to bench ends. 2 aisles, central bank of pews has staggered divider. Pews to either side of set fawr are set longitudinally to face it. Raked boarded floor.
Set fawr: rectangular with opposing gated side entrances, integral internal seating around sides, and central angled desk, double-doored cupboard below; rounded top rail, solid stop-chamfered panelling to front and sides.
Rectangular table with turned legs before pulpit, flanked by 2 low ladder back windsor chairs with scrolled arms. Turned wood collection plates.
Pulpit: rectangular, backing front vestibule; opposed side entrances and projecting central angled desk; solid front of 3 bolection moulded panels, above moulded projecting cornice, below moulded projecting rail and plinth; stairwings to sides are angled with entrances to front; open string newel stairs; rounded curved bannisters, open turned balustrading, and turned newels and corner posts with Jacobean style flat pyramidal topped baluster finials; matching side rails.
Right of pulpit - rectangular brass plaque to memory of Lyn Cleaver, 1958 - 1977. Brass plaque on notice board above minister's seat has folowing inscription:

Chapel house and posible school(interior not examined) attached to south end of chapel. Built on same axis as main chapel but set back on west side. Two storey with pitched slate roof, rendered stacks, and pebble-dashed elevations; possible schoolroom/vestry to south end in upper storey accessed by external stair against west front.
Cemetry adjacent to north of chapel: rectangular plot with mainly 19th century headstones, some 18th century.
Limestone rubble wall surrounds cemetry and chapel. Roundheaded limestone gate-posts in wall to west of north façade of chapel with double wrought iron scroll decorated gates. Single iron swing gate with pointed rails to cemetry from north front of chapel, lies at west end of wall to north of chapel which delimits southern extent of cemetry.
