- Summary: Soar Independent Chapel was built in 1814 and rebuilt in 1875. The present chapel, dated 1875, is built in the Sub-Classical and Simple Round-Headed style of the gable-entry type.
RCAHMW, February 2010 - Description: Cause established 1812 & chapel first built 1814/6; rebuilt 1875. Built in the Sub-Classical and Simple Round-Headed style, gable entry type. Status (1999): in chapel use.
Single storey chapel with pitched slate roof, square stone pyramid topped finials.
East (i.e. with set fawr and pulpit backing on to it) front of snecked limestone blocks. Small rectangular slate date plaque in upper gable - "SOAR/ADEILADWYD 1814/AIL ADEILADWYD/1875". Central round arched entrance. Architrave of limestone blocks, stressed keystone. Panelled double door. Glazed lunnette above. Two long round arched windows either side with limestone architraves, stressed keystones and slate sills. Y-shaped tracery with plain glass fixed lights.
North and south elevations - pebble dashed walls. Three square headed windows with fifteen pane sliding sashes. Slate sills and cement architraves.
West elevation - pebble dashed. Two square headed fifteen pane sash windows.
Chapel interior: Inner vestibule with T and G panelled ceiling, plaster walls, decorative quarry tile floor. Two single panelled side entrances lead into chapel emerging on either side of the pulpit. Two aisles. Central steeply raked doored pews with staggered dividers. Raked banks of pews either side. All are stained to resemble pale wood grain. Three bay T and G panelled ceiling. Central wooden square ventillator. Plain moulded coving. Painted plaster walls. Painted T and G panelled dado.
Set fawr - Rectangular solid panelled front with cut out four-pointed star in upper panels. Fixed reading desk centre front. Interior bench with small cupboard beneath at centre front.
Pulpit - Three sided, balustraded diagonally set sides. Centre front part- solid part-balustraded. Reading desk with pegged elevation system . Open two step entrance either side. Turned newels with grooved globe finials. Vertically panelled reredos - backing on to internal porch.
Fittings - table, carved armchair, and two wooden long handled collecting boxes with seven sides all in set fawr.
Small cemetery on south side of chapel entered by a gated stone ogee arch with a stepped top.
Chapel forecourt surrounded by a small rendered wall, topped with limestone coping stones. Double wrought iron gate entrance, limestone gateposts.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
