- Summary: Siloam Independent Chapel was first built in 1841 and rebuilt in 1880. The present chapel, dated 1880. is built in the Simple Round-Headed style of the gable-entry type.
RCAHMW, February 2010 - Description: The cause was established in 1840 and the chapel first built in 1841; rebuilt in 1880. Built in the Simple Round-Headed style, gable entry type. Status (1999): in chapel use. Alternative name Capel Bach.
Simple rectangular, single storey Congregational chapel in the Classical style. Orientated north-south, entrance front at the north. Pitched slate roof, ceramic ridge tiles. Rendered elevations.
Exterior: north front - moulded cement pediment and cornice forms gable. Inscribed slate roundel with moulded surround within pediment. Inscription - "SILOAM ADDOLDY ANNIBYNOL ADEILADWYD YN 1841 AILADEILADWYD YN 1880". Plain pilaster strips to cornice at either corner, delineated by groove. Round headed arched windows with Y tracery and projecting sills flank central roundheaded door. Rounded hoodmoulds supported on moulded cement brackets above door and windows. Double doors, with 2 fielded panels and fan light above.
East and west elevations have 2 roundheaded windows with Y tracery, fixed lights of obscured glass and projecting slate sills. South gable elevation is blank and pebble-dashed.
Chapel interior: narrow rectangular vestibule - plaster ceiling and panelled doors at opposing ends which access chapel, projects into main body of chapel, short of ceiling height and topped by moulded plaster cornice.
Main interior - painted plaster ceiling, divided into 3 bays by corniced beams, supported by scrolled plaster consoles. Large ceiling rose in central bay surrounds elaborate wheel shaped ventilation grill with cone shaped pendant.
Plain plaster walls to dado. T&G panelling below. 2 aisles divide the seating into 3 blocks: a central block of raked doored pews with staggered dividers, and raked banks of doored pews to either side. Doors to pews panelled with chamfer stops. Chamfered disc finials to pew ends.
Set fawr - on raised platform backs onto south wall of vestibule, three sided panelled surround with fixed internal bench and rounded rail. Central lectern with cupboard below. Modern windsor style armchair before pulpit.
Pulpit - backs onto internal vestibule. Vertically curved banister with turned open balustrading up steps to either side of projecting pulpit. Plain newels with Jacobean style finials. Pulpit with vertical panels above rail, lengthwise panel below. Raised desk. Contemporary Minister's bench, chamfered panelling.
Other fittings - brass and wood collection shovels. Brass paraffin lamps with scrolled, foliated brackets on vestibule wall, to either side of pulpit. These flank certificate in wood frame " GWOBR ANRHYDEDD. CYMANFA YSGOLION ANNIBYNWYR MON" for the years 1889 - 1904. Modern clock on east wall with plaque below "Er cof am Richard Parry Diacon 1941 - 1968 Gan ei Dad a'I Fam".
Forecourt to chapel is surrounded by low rubble wall, iron gate to west with scrolled decoration. East side of forecourt formed by corrugated roofed lean-to/store.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
