- Summary: The first Dolau Baptist Chapel was built in 1767 by builder Richard Walker. This was rebuilt and enlarged in 1826, in the Italinate style with a long-wall entry plan. The vestry and the porch were added to the gable ends during the late nineteenth century. During the same period a gallery supported on cast iron pillars and facing a pitchpine and cast iron pulpit, a rose window and other internal fittings were installed.
RCAHMW, January 2010 - Description: The Church was formed 1761 the first chapel built in 1767 with Richard Walker as the builder. This was rebuilt and enlarged in 1826 in the Italinate style, as a long wall entry plan. The vestry & the porch were added to the gable ends in the late 19th century, and at the same time a gallery supported on cast iron pillars and facing a pitchpine and cast iron pulpit, a rose window & other internal fittings were inserted. Status (1998): in chapel use.
The church was formed in 1761 (1998 Llawlyfr of Undeb Bedyddwyr Cymru) and built before 1800 (1851 Religious Census), in 1760 or 1767 (date plaque, illustrated in J B Sinclair & R W D Fenn, Marching to Zion, Radnorshire chapels (1990); BCS/ BGC), with Richard Walker as builder; it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1824 (John Jones) or 1826 (date plaque; BCS/ BGC). A vestry & porch added to gable ends in late 19th century, "and a gallery supported on cast-iron pillars was built facing a new pitchpine and iron pulpit over which was inserted a rose window" (Sinclair & Fenn, op. cit.); other late-C19 internal fittings (OMJ). My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
