- Summary: St Johns Methodist Chapel was built in 1907, in the Neo-Perpendicular style with a gable-entry plan, to the design of Ewen Harper and Brother of Birmingham. The tower was never fully completed but the chapel plans are now held in Powys Record Office. St Johns was closed as a Methodist Chapel in the late 1950's and converted into offices for the use of Powys County Council in 1996.
RCAHMW, January 2010 - Description: The present chapel was built between 1904-?07 in a Neo-Perpendicular style, with a gable entry type plan, to the designs of Ewen Harper and Brother of Birmingham. The tower was never fully completed. The plans are now held in the Powys Record Office. It was closed as a Methodist Church in the late 1950s, although it carried on in later ecumenical use. In ca. 1996 it was converted to offices for Powys County Council use, and a floor inserted.
The present structure dates from 1904-?07, its tower never completed.The plans, allowing for side aisle extension, and now in Powys Record Office, went before the local planning committee on 22 August, 1904; the architects were Ewen Harper and Brother of Birmingham (RCAHMW). RCCEORBWM recorded 600 sittings in 1905. Closed as a Methodist Church in the late 1950s; subsequent ecumenical use, e.g., as Heart of Wales Christian Centre; converted ca. 1996 to Powys Coutny Council Planning and Social Services, and a floor inserted (RCAHMW). My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
