- Summary: Tabernacl Methodist Chapel was built in 1891, to the design of architects Thomas George Williams and Emrys Ap Iwan, in the Gothic style with a high spire and gable-enty/horse-shoe plan. It has a convex front, with a large front window and pyramid roof. Tabernacl is now Grade 2 Listed for its original, quirky design.
RCAHMW, January 2010 - Description: Chapel built 1889/91 (cost £1841) to the design of Thomas G. Williams & Rev. Emrys ap Iwan. Semi circular interior. Listed building Grade 2. Built in the Gothic style, gable entry type. Status (1995): in chapel use.
CADW - Exterior
Gothic chapel. Unusual plan with U-plan single storey body of chapel, 2-storey vestries and schoolrooms to rear, narrow Gothic frontispiece to entrance masking convex base of "U". Pale grey stone, rock-faced; slate roofs. Entrance has narrow gabled Gothic frontispiece with broad 6-light window with Geometrical tracery; steps with iron railings up to 2 Gothic doorways separated by buttress; buttress to L, to R, buttress rises as part of unusual narrow cruciform-plan pinnacle spire with flying buttress to R onto 2-window lobby. On opposite side, 2-window lobby with pyramidal roof. To sides, four 3-light Gothic windows, and, in bays treated as transepts, 3-light windows with Geometrical tracery. To rear, 2-storey vestry and schoolroom block, six 2-light windows to upper floor, five 3-light windows to ground floor.
CADW - Interior
Single-storey U-plan interior with very broad hammerbeam roof, stone corbels. Wooden seats curve round rear and are arranged in tiers to sides and rear. Elaborate pulpit and set fawr enclosure, pierced panelling and scrolled iron rails to set fawr. Above, exposed organ pipes arranged across broad rear wall in 3 blocks stepped up over pulpit. My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
