- Summary: Penbryn Methodist Chapel was built in 1804, rebuilt in 1860 and again in 1902. The final chapel, dated 1902, was built in the Sub-Classical style with a gable-entry plan, by architect W.O. Jones of Bangor. Penbryn closed c.1980 and stood disused.
RCAHMW, December 2009 - Description: Chapel built 1803/4; rebuilt/enlarged 1859-60. Rebuilt again 1901/2. Status (late C20): disused.
"It is surprising that no other nonconformist denomination has ever gained a strong foothold in Minera" [p.78]......
"There is no available information regarding the shape and design of the first [1804] chapel" [p.73].
Of the 1902 chapel, "Every preacher visiting Pen-y-Bryn commented on the beautiful building and the fact that it was so easy to preach in. My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
