Wrexham Planning Office, 2010 - Description: The congregation built a chapel in 1849 on an unknown site and then built this chapel in 1885 in the Gothic style, side-entry plan. It was built on the trackbed near the entrance of the Brymbo (Brake) Tunnel after it was closed in 1862. Organ installed ca. 1900. Status (2000): in chapel use.
"When the Great Western Railway had driven their tracks through from Croesnewydd to Brymbo, the use of the Brake and Black Lane tunnel ceased. Between these two locations was a superfluous strip of land which was secured by the English Methodists as a site for their third chapel in Moss. Plans were prepared and arrangements made for labour, stone quarrying, transportation and site work. It is intimated that all the work was done by volunteers, men of the chapel, and many who worked at the Westminster Colliery. Sadly some older residents infer that many of the latter were coerced into "volunteering" to work on the new chapel project after a hard shift underground. "They knew which side their bread was buttered," some said, "when many of the chapel officials were also influential men at the pit."
"Stone was quarried at the Moss Road Quarry, opposite the King's Head Inn, hauled to the bottom of the Brake endless-rope incline, and hauled to the top on the disused railway lines. The whole area was the scene of intense activity for months, during which there was one tragedy when Mr Thomas Jones was killed in a hauling accident. By 1886, the building work was completed" (extract from John Bagshaw, Broughton then and now (1992), p. 83). - Date Of Chapel: 1886 Source:

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
