- Summary: The cause at Brongest began in c.1780, and the first Salem Methodist Chapel was built in 1811. this chapel was rebuilt on a larger scale in 1887, to the design of David Davies of Penrhiwllan. The current chapel is built in the Sub-Classical style of the gable entry type.
The present chapel, dated 1846, is built in the Simple Round-Headed style of the long-wall entry type. The chapel is built with its side elevation parallel to the road, the gabled façade overloooking an enclosed courtyard to the right. There is a centrally placed, round-headed doorway with a moulded surround and light with circular glazing. Above this is a short, round-headed window with round-headed glazing, and there are two similar, but taller, windows to the outer bays. In the apex of the gable is a small round-headed ventilation opening , below which is a small date plaque. To the side elvation are three further tall windows.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 350 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £760. - Description: Cause begun ca.1780; chapel built 1811, rebuilt/enlarged 1885 (1887) to the design of Mr Davies of Penrhiwllan. Built in the Sub-Classical style, gable entry type. Status (1998): in chapel use.
