- Summary: Cause began in 1654. Bethel Baptist Chapel was built in 1735 and then rebuilt in 1831 in the Vernacular style of the long-wall entry type. Door at either end of the long elevatiion, flanking two 12 paned windows and a simple rectangular plaque. Rendered elevations with a slate roof.Moulded stucco surrounds to doors and windows.
Bethel was renovated in 1955 and is now Grade 2 Listed as a well-preserved rural chapel, with an attractive interior of painted grained and marbled finishes. 80 members in 1840. Large enough for a congregation of 120 in 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and Other Religious Buildings in Wales and Monmouthshire census), and valued at £500 - Description: Cause begun 1654 & first chapel built 1735. Present chapel built 1831 (1833/4?) in vernacular style, long-wall entry type; renovated 1952. Status (1998): in chapel use.
The congregation seemed to have had their services at Coedgleision (NPRN7164) 1735-1831 and then built/moved to Bethel in Silian. (PI)
CADW - Exterior
Unpainted roughcast with unpainted stucco dressings, all of 1955, and slate roof with metal ventilator. Small lateral facade with two cambered-headed 12-pane sashes in stucco surrounds with keyblocks. Date plaque between. Outer cambered headed doors with stucco surrounds and keyblocks. Pebble dash inserts each side of keyblocks. Double 2-panel doors. Channelled angle piers. End walls have small first floor 9-pane sash. Rear has C20 red brick added lean-to, two-storey.
CADW - Interior
Probably mid C19, possibly of 1831. Three-sided ceiling, sloping to back and front. Three-sided gallery on 3 reeded wooden marbled columns. Gallery front is curved at angles and has deep marbled cornice beneath row of vertical panels, and one round clock-panel to centre. Painted graining. Painted grained box pews in three blocks on rear wall, and one small block to right of pulpit. Plain great seat with canted ends. Pulpit with steps up each side and curved angles with blind balustrading. Curving top rail. Gallery stairs at rear corners, lobbies in front corners. - Restored: 1955 Source:Cadw

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
