- Summary: The cause in Taliesin was started in 1773 and the Rehoboth School was built in 1791. in 1833 the first chapel was built in the long wall style, and was subsequently rebuilt as the current built in 1899.
The original chapel was built as a long-wall type, with two tall, flat-headed sash, pulpit windows to the centre of the façade. There were two flat-haeded doorways with panelled doors to the outer bays, above which were a further two sash windows at gallery level. The chapel was rebuilt in 1899 in the Classical style of the gable entry type, the front façade facing the main road. The rendered front is dominated by a heavy, lean-to porch with a central gabled section accommodating the segemntally arched double doorway, furnished with boarded doors with large and intricate iron hinges. Above the porch is a triple window in the Italinate style, above which the chapel name is displayed in raised stucco letters.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 370 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £1,825. - Description: Cause begun ca.1773 & School built 1791. Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
