- Summary: The first Ebeneser Independent Chapel was built in 1772, when 50 members left the chapel at Cilgwyn due to a disagreement over the Arian leanings of that chapel. A call was sent to Mr Phillip Maurice, a student at Abergavenny College, who was ordained here in 1775 and served the congregation until 1820. He was followed by a long series of other ministers: during the ministry of Richard Owen, in 1837, the chapel was rebuilt, and in 1852 a gallery was added. A strong revival was experienced in 1858, leading to further work on the building in 1859/60, and in 1890 extensive repairs were carried out.
The present chapel, dated in essence to 1834, is a long-wall chapel with a cement render on the front façade. The façade is extremely simple with two round-headed pulpit windows with intersecting glazing to the centre, flanked by two flat-headed doorways with panelled doors. Between the windows is a small name plaque. To the front of the chapel is a burial ground.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 406 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £1,200. - Description: First chapel built 1771/2; rebuilt/modified 1837-41,1852, 1859/60, 1890. Building style is simple round-headed, long-wall entry type. Status (1998): in chapel use.

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
