- Summary: There was a Sunday school, prayer meetings and occasional preachings in the area for some time before Pantycrugiau Independent Chapel was built in 1848. It was initiated by Mr Rees, Maenygroes, who preached the first service when the chapel opened on July 16th 1848. The church was formed on 19th August, 1849. By 1856 the walls were collapsing so the chapel had to be rebuilt, and it was rebuilt again in 1897, by which time it had become too small for the congregation.
The present chapel, dated 1897, is built in the Classical style of the gable entry type, with a dominant feature being a large arch in the facade. This encloses the centrally placed doorway, over which are two narrow, round-headed windows with a circular date plage over. The arch is flanked by two tall, similar windows, and there is a round-headed louvre in the apex of the gable. The side elevations have three flat-haeded windows to the ground floor, and a corresponding number of round-headed windows to the gallery.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 350 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £800.

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
