- Summary: The Independant cause started here very early, and in 1672 the house of Davis Rees was liscenced for worship. Ty'Ngwndwn Independent Chapel was first built in 1775 and rebuilt in 1815, 1835 due to expanding congregations. A gallery was added in 1861. The chapel was then restored in 1892.
The present chapel, dated 1863, is built in the Simple Round-Headed style of the long-wall entry type. There are two outer doorways with segmentally arch heads, over which are small round-headed gallery windows with round-headed glazing. To the centre of the rendered façade are two similar, tall, pulpit windows, inbetween which is a small square date plaque inscibed "Ty'nygwndwn. O Addoldy yr Annibynwr. Adeiladwyd 1775. Ailadeiladwyd 1835. Adgweirywyd 1892". Internally, there is a pulpit of 1892, the centre panels with cusping, with a steps to either side from the Sedd Fawr. Behind is a round-headed pulpit arch on consoles. There is a gallery of 1861 on three sides, supported on cast iron columns and with a wooden panelled front. The flat ceiling has a large centre rose.
Ty'Ngwndwn is Grade 2 listed for its architectural interest as a late Georgian chapel with a well preserved nineteenth century interior.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 350 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £1000. - Description: Cause begun 1672; chapel built 1773. Rebuilt 1815, 1835 & 1861; restored 1892. Building style is simple round-headed, long-wall entry type. Status (1998): in chapel use.
Good but plain exterior of smallish irregular stones in random courses. Sidewall façade, two central windows with matching roundheaded door with unusual transome design.
Interior very odd. Pea-green walls. Ceiling boarded over and painted pale grey, follows the half-hipped form. Decorative moulding painted pink angled along edge of wall-ceiling intersection. Dropped 'pendant' finial at each corner that is surely a turned table-leg!

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
