- Summary: The chapel was built in 1760 by Thomas Bowen Esq. on Blaenborthin land. He had hoped to keep the chapel separate from the Established church and the Nonconformists, but failed to get a preist to preach there so handed it over to the Methodists.
In his will of 1806 it was written "I also Will and direct that the meeting house or chapel and yard thereunto adjoining called Waunifor Chapel formerly built by me on the tenement of Blanborthin be made use of for ever hereafter as a House of Prayer and Public Worship and that all preachers belonging to and members of the Welsh Association of Methodists shall have full liberty to preach therein and that they and all other persons who shall be desirous to attend Public Worship therein shall have free ingress, egress, and regress, to and from the same without any molestation or interuption from my son Daniel Bowen, or any other person or persons claiming under me,and that the said Meeting House shall be kept in good thorough and sufficient repair by my said wife during the term of her natural life."
The chapel was later rebuilt in 1854 and restored, including the provision of a new roof, in 1887. The present chapel, dated 1887, is built in the Later Vernacular style of the gable entry type. Two inscription stones of the west wall are inscribed T. B./1760/ Capel. And CAPEL WAUNIFOR/a/Adeiladwyd gan
Thomas Bowen,Ysw./1760/Ail-adeiladwyd/1854
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 90 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £400.

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
