- Summary: Ponterwyd Methodist Chapel was built in 1800 and rebuilt in 1821 and 1854. It is said to have originated as a Weslayan Methodist chapel, marked on the 1891 OS map as Primitive Methodist. The present chapel, dated 1854, is built in the Simple Round-Headed style of the gable entry type.
The chapel has a broad gabled front of colour washed stucco. There are two arched windows to the centre and an archded doorway to either end. In the centre of the gable is a plaque with the inscription 'Capel Ponterwyd Adeiladwyd yn y flwyddyn 1800, ac a helaethwyd yn y flwyddyn 1854'. To the right of the chapel is a small chapel house.
The interior of the chapel is close to square, and has four banks of box pews which are raked towards the rear. The pulpit and sedd Fawr are later in date. The pulpit has a panelled front, and is reached by two short stairs to either side.
The chapel is now Grade II listed as a good example of a transitional phase from long-wall to gable entry fronts, with a good surviving interior.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 430 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £1120.

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
