This photograph includes my great grandfather William James, surrounded by a bevy of Cardiganshire beauties! My mother had written on the back “Dacu [ Wm James] Nana’s father & Sunday School Class (Penygarn)”. He and his wife Sophia retired to Glyn Ceiro, Dole sometime after 1911 and before his death in 1937, so it was reasonable to assume it was Capel Penygarn in Bow Street. However I have been told by Rhian Evans that “This is outside Capel Nasareth, Talybont as my great-grandmother is the first on the left in the front row…..” and “My great-grandmother Catherine Jane Francis lived at Ty Mawr Ceulan, Talybont and was a member at Capel Nasareth and we have a copy of this photograph with Nasareth written on the back!”. And after looking at photos of both chapels online, it does look more like Nasareth than Penygarn.
Dear Sian – many thanks for posting this photograph. It is always wonderful to have such images of the people who were part of the chapel community. Looking at the detailing it fits Nasereth at Tal-y-Bont well – would you be happy for this photograph to be added to the archive for this chapel in the National Monuments Record? Susan RC
Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
