- Nprn: 7179
- Summary: Tynberth Villa, situated along the road from Berth Chapel, was originally named Bwlch-y-Gwynt (NPRN7181). It may be possible that this house was the original meeting place for the congregation of Berth prior to the building of the chapel.
The cause was begun in 1809, and Berth Methodist Chapel was built in 1840 with a chapel house attached. This was rebuilt in 1877 and replaced in 1908, when the old chapel became the vestry. In 1922 the vesty was converted into two dwellings that are now almost unrecognisable as a former chapel. The present chapel, dated 1908, is built in the Sub-Classical style of the gable-entry type.
In 1905 (Royal Commission on the Church of England and other Religious Bodies in Wales and Monmouthshire) there were 168 sittings in the chapel which was valued at £500.
RCAHMW, November 2009 - Description: Cause begun 1809; built 1840. Rebuilt 1877; renewed 1908. Built in the Sub-Classical style, gable entry type. Status (1998): in chapel use.
Tynberth Villa, situated along the road from Berth Chapel, was originally named Bwlch-y-Gwynt (NPRN7181). It may be possible that this house was the original meeting place for the congregation of Berth prior to the building of the chapel, (or this NPRN may be a duplicate with 12106 - see memo for 7181). In 1840 a chapel was built with the chapel house attached. This was then superseded in 1908 by the present Berth Chapel. The 1840 chapel was then used as the vestry. This was converted to two dwellings in about 1992 and is now almost unrecognisable as a former chapel. The present chapel is in a poor state of repair and there is a strong chance that it will be closing quite soon as the congregation is very small. Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
