RCAHMW, June 2009 - Description: Church formed & chapel built 1709 on different site; separately incorporated in 1735. Present chapel built 1840/1 & radically renewed 1879 to the design of the Henry Thomas of Swansea. Present building style is simple round- headed, gable entry type. New school & vestry added 1932 to Capt. J Evans's & B. Evans's design. Building is listed Grade 2. Status (1998): in chapel use. Date of present chapel 1879.
The church (chapel) was formed in 1709 (1998 "Llawlyfr") and built in that year on another site (1851 R. Census & Cadw); it was separately incorporated in 1735. The present church (chapel) was built in 1840 (1851 R. Census) & radically renewed in 1879 to the design of the Swansea architect, Henry Thomas, with David Rees, Ystalyfera, as builder. A new school & vestry were added in 1932 to Capt. J Evans's & B. Evans's design. The Henry Willis organ is of 1952. Status (1998): in Baptist use.
Note from the Religious Census of 1851: a Calendar of the Returns Relating to Wales, ed. I G Jones, p284, "There is a large Burying Ground attached to the Chapel, on a lease 999 years. Length of the Chapel out side of the walls 61ft, width 57. Galeries at both ends and the middle - seated on the flore and the galeries".
The present Baptistery is at the front of Ysgoldy Adulam and to the left of the main gates (information from the Cadw list description of 16/10/1998).
The Church Secretary told me that in the last 20 years 250,000 has been spent on the chapel and the organ and on converting the oldest part of the cemetery into a car park; work still needs to be done on the schoolroom, a more pleasing building from the outside than the chapel, but built with a porous brick (information 0f 27/07/1998 from Mr Gareth Watts). - Built: 1706 Source:

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
