- Nprn: 6363
- Summary: Onnenfawr Chapel was built in 1840. By 1886 the chapel had closed and the building converted into a dwelling.
RCAHMW, June 2009. - Description: Chapel built 1838/40. Closed in 1886 & converted to a dwelling. Status (1997): other (residential).
This chapel was originally given the NGR of SN59782897 near which spot there is a farm called Onen-fawr. D. Elwyn Davies (1982) "They Thought For Themselves" makes no mention of a chapel at this location. The chapel at SN64721992 is however well documented under the name Onnenfawr. It is assumed that the original NGR is an error. (DJP 30/01/98)
After the Unitarian cause was evicted from Llandyfan Old Church in 1838 (J. Elwyn Davies, "They thought for themselves"), land at Onnenfawr was donated for a chapel (J. Elwyn Davies, op. cit.); this was built in 1838 or 1840 (1851 R. Censu). Onnenfawr chapel closed in 1886 (J. Elwyn Davies, ibid), and was converted to a dwelling (I D Jones). Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
