- Summary: Penyrheol Church was built in 1783 and rebuilt during the early 19th century, in the Vernacular and Simple Gothic style of the gable entry type. The building is grade 2 listed as a well preserved upland chapel, in a fine setting and amidst many early 19th century gravestones of interest.
RCAHMW, June 2009. - Description: Church formed 1819, a chapel having been built 1783/4; present chapel was built early C19. Long-wall chapel converted to gable-end facade. Built in the Vernacular and Simple Gothic style, gable entry type. See Site Files [Ecclesiastical] for photos. Status (2001): in chapel use.
Small early country chapel with graveyard (PRN 19850) occupying large tract of land in extremely isolated position in the foothills of the Black Mountains, undated.
Rectangular form. Loose stone walls, painted grey. Half-hipped slated roof with plain ridge tiles. Gothic features.
Existing main façade - N gable end. Small stone porch protrudes to N, stone slabbed floor, pair of t & g gothic doors lead in from L & R.
W lateral façade - original entrance was between the two 4-pane windows with gothic tracery. Worn memorial stone to centre above original doorway.
S gable end elevation - single 4-pane sash with gothic tracery, shuttered. Square 4-pane sash to outhouse.
E elevation - outhouse extension. Outhouse (PRN 19851) has stone floors & thick gabled stone roof. Long chimney, projects fromgable, E wall. Small black grate. Outside entrance door N. Small 4-pane window.
Interior. Painted plaster walls. T & g over original stone flags. Three exposed tie beams.
Shuttered window forms backdrop to pulpit on S wall. Window has coloured glass margin lights. Two memorial stones to either side.
Small oak straight panelled pulpit with door. Three steps up. Communion table oak, same period.
Loose chairs - no pews.
Portable organ, W.Guelph. Ontario.
Fireplace on E wall.
Small gallery originally on west wall now removed.
Baptisms take place in "sheep dip" marked "dipping pool" OS NGR21703580.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
