- Summary: Bethlehem Chapel was built in 1821 (or possibly 1828), and rebuilt/re-fronted in 1870 by architect George Morgan of Carmarthen. The chapel is built in the Romanesque style of the gable entry type.
RCAHMW, June 2009. - Description: The chapel was built in 1821 (or possibly 1828), and was re-fronted ca. 1870. Building is in Romanesque style, gable entry type. Status (2000): Chapel.
Chapel of square form with cross-winged façade occupying position in the town and having both classical and gothic features.
Built c.1830s originally as lateral façade. Entire porch and gothic front is a later addition c.1870s. Stone rubble main walling with ashlar quoins and dressings. Grey and red sandstone arches formed by voussoirs. Half-hipped slate roof with iron finials. Terracotta finials on cross wings. Porch addition is hipped on both sides.
Main façade- S facing - three bays. Two heavy wooden panelled doors set in rectangular stone doorways with semi-circular heads, stone carved tympanums and voussoirs in porch annex. Doorways separated by notice board panel with decorative stone platband above.
Large Italianate style mullioned wheel window with four graduated lancets beneath forms the centre bay above porch. Voussoir head with dripstones to wheel window.
Outer bay mullioned long windows. Coloured stone voussoirs, dripstones and moulded stone tympana.
E elevation - pebble dashed. Two rectangular 18-pane windows. Shed/stores annex with single door facing south off east wall.
Old gravestones dating from 1840s stacked on N side of chapel.
N wall - plain rendered.
W elevation has schoolroom/vestry extension, part of original chapel. Single rectangular 18-pane sash on chapel main wall.
Schoolroom/vestry annex (PRN 19856)- rendered with slate roof. Ground floor - single rectangular doorway, two "Georgian" 16-pane fixed lights above - facing south.
Grass surround to chapel. Flagstones to front of porch. Stone wall with railings inset fronts road. Pair of decorative wrought iron gates with overthrow supporting lamp.
Interior. Long entrance porch length of annex has gallery stairs to either side and two main entrance doors leading into chapel.
Main chapel - plastered walls. Wood panelled ceiling with three Queen post trusses having decorative infil on braces. Wooden floor, carpetted.
Two aisles separate plain wooden panelled bench pews, gently raked. Longitudinal pews to L & R of sedd fawr.
Sedd fawr - rectangular raised platform area enclosed by three bays of wood panelling with central panel having Gothic niches. Loose chairs with decorated Gothic backs and modern communion table. Stairs lead up to either side of semi-octagonal pulpit. Affixed lectern. Evidence of early lighting.
Decorative wooden panelled backboard incorporates speaker's bench seat behind pupit, with moulded plaster reredos above.
Two memorial plaques 1910 & 1926 on N wall.
Organ - to R of sedd fawr. Open pipes, decorative wood panelling.
Gallery - supported by four cast iron columns. Cast iron brackets follow the convex front of the 'theatrical gallery'. Gallery post 1870s addition.
Gallery pews, wood panelled benches, raked.
Schoolroom - W annex, rectangular panelled door entrance from chapel.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
