- Summary: Lower Chapel was originally built in 1810, then rebuilt in 1815 and again in 1857, still as a long-wall chapel like the original. Further rebuilding work took place in 1910, when the southern elevation became the main facade and a porch was added, transforming it into a Simple Round-Headed style chapel, of the gable entry type.
RCAHMW, May 2009. - Description: Former long-wall chapel originally built in 1810; it was rebuilt in 1815, and again in 1857, still latterly as a long-wall chapel. Further rebuilding work in 1910, when the S. elevation became main facade and a porch added. Built in the Simple Round-Headed style, gable entry type. Status (2000): in chapel use.
Early example of country chapel fronting main Brecon road at Lower Chapel.
Rectangular plan reputedly built in 1810 with E lateral main façade, classical features. Slate gable roof with plain ridge tiles. Loose stone walls, dressed stone quoins, whitewashed all round.
Chapel altered 1910 to give S main façade. New entrance porch addition bears 1910 datestone, dressed stone, slate tiled gable roof with terracotta ridge tiles & finial. Weatherboarding all round. Porch is half-buttressed L & R. Round headed stone arch in porch frames pair of t & g doors with semi-circular glass fanlights. Two longitudinal round headed fixed pane windows with semi-cicular coloured lights to either side of porch
E lateral wall - original main façade. Datestone above former doorway "Bethesda Capel y Capel Trienyddion Caleinaidd 1857". Two round headed 2-paned sash windows with margin lights of cloured glass to either side of blocked doorway, set in dressed stone arches. Fenestration has green painted wooden frames & stone sills allround. Entrance would have been immediately onto cobbled road surface. Pre-1910 windows had Gothic tracery.
W elevation - fenestration as E wall. 1840 Memorial stone on wall.
N gable end has been built against.
Interior. Small interior entrance porch, herringbone tiled floor, pair of panelled doors with coloured glass lights as windows lead into main body of chapel.
Chapel interior. Plastered walls above t & g dado panelling. Plastered ceiling with central moulded plaster 'rose'. T & g floor. Single aisle separates pitch pine bench pews to right of doorway. Pulpit located on W wall, which once faced the original entrance door. Pews have been re-aligned.
Longitudinal pews to L & R of pulpit.
Raised platform communion area.
Two steps to right of pulpit. Straight front, balusters to either side of wood panelling, affixed lectern.
Wooden panelled backboard below "Georgian" arched reredos with pediment, painted green & gold on white.
Free standing organ to L of pulpit came from Trefecca College.
Low dressed stone wall 1910 rebuild. Wrought iron railings surmount wall, single entrance gate to S side. Original chapel wall in same situation had mounting block.
Graveyard (PRN 19834) on S & W sides of chapel, boundary hedge.
Chapel House (PRN 19835). Detached house to S of chapel. Echoes stonework, whitewashed, slate roof. Two red brick chimneys on gable ends.
E main façade fronts road. Ground floor - single rectangular doorway with fanlight. Dressed stone lintel. Two 6-pane sash windows to L & R. 1st floor - three 6-pane sashes.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
