- Summary: Libanus Chapel built 1823 and then rebuilt in 1860 and 1880 . Owing to the construction of the A470 trunk road, Libanus Chapel was completely rebuilt again in 1972, in the Late 20th Century style, of the gable entry type.
RCAHMW, 19th May 2009. - Description: Cause begun & chapel built 1823. Rebuilt/modified 1860 -1861 , and rebuilt again in 1880 . Lost to construction of the A470 trunk road, chapel was completely rebuilt 1972. Built in the Late 20th c style, gable entry type. See Site Files [Ecclesiastical] for photos. Original Chapel at Libanus was built in 1823, rebuilt 1880, and lost to construction of A470 trunk road. Modern chapel built 1972 by grants from the Welsh Office, as a result of the compulsory purchase.
Chapel, almost square plan under tiled gable roof with weatherboarding.
Brick lower courses, breeze block above, rendered and painted white.
Main façade - W gable end. Large porch, lower brick courses below dressed stone, flat-roofed. Large feature window with three longitudinal panes rising to apex, above porch.
Porch - two small windows to N & S, single panes with opening lights.
Large rectangular double panelled entrance doors.
E gable end elevation - stained glass window, brick edged. Ministers' room annex.
S elevation - three rectangular horizontal single pane windows.
N elevation - two square single pane windows to schoolroom.
Porch interior - marley tiled floor, plastered, double doors lead into main body of chapel.
Chapel Interior. Rendered all round above skirting board. Carpetted floor.
Ceiling - squared wooden-framed effect created by crossing rafters & purlins for ornamentation. End rafters painted white. Two central rafters stained wood terminating in wooden pilasters.
Raised platform communion area W wall.
Large circular stained glass window above communion area on E wall. Subject, "Lamb of God", lamb on blue celestial background.
Single aisle divides modern open benches.
Three steps lead up to large pulpit occupying corner position to right of speakers' platform. Solid wood front, longitudinal "fret" effect, two cupboards underneath. Fixed lectern.
Portable organ.
Schoolroom - annex to chapel on N side, separated by folding screen. Loose chairs, piano. Toilet block to N.
Ministers' room to N, entrance door L of raised platform.
Chapel and large graveyard (PRN 19832) are located on large tract of raised ground to the south of the trunk road. Part of the original graveyard was on this site. Much of the stone from the original chapel has been re-used in the retaining walls.
Double entrance gates to driveway serving chapel and burial ground.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
