- Summary: Cynmmer Independent Chapel was built in 1834 to replace a previous chapel of 1743 which was founded by Reverend Henry Davies and was the first Nonconformist chapel in the Rhondda. Unusually it was not rebuilt in later nineteenth century and so retains its long-wall facade. It is a two-storey rubble stone-built chapel with a slate roof and stone end chimney stacks built in the Simple round-headed style. It has a central stone date plaque at gallery level inscribed: 'Cymmer a Adeiladwyd ar y Flwyddyn 1743 ac a ail Adeiladwyd ar y Flwyddyn 1834'. By 1996 Cymmer stood disused and badly vandalised. By 2009 plans were in place to reconstruct the chapel after being affected by a road widening scheme. This chapel is now Grade 2 Listed for it's special interest as a historic South Wales Valleys chapel, rare in having retained the earlier nineteenth century character of its main front.
RCAHMW, May 2012 - Description: Built in 1743, rebuilt 1834 in the Simple Round-Headed style, longwall entry type. See Site Files [Ecclesiastical] for photos. Present status [1999]: disused The first nonconformist chapel in the Rhondda, not rebuilt in the later C19, and so still retaining its long-wall façade (information from Cadw list description of 01/08/1996). See Site Files [Ecclesiastical] for photos.
[Additional:] Chapel photographed in its setting in Jan. 2004 before affected by a road improvement scheme. The graveyard is to be removed but the chapel will be retained. (2004.01.27/RCAHMW/RFS) - 1st Chapel: 1743 Source:Cadw (plaque)

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
