- Summary: Zoar Methodist Chapel was built in 1868 in the Simple Round-Headed style with a gable entry plan. The chapel is 27 feet in length, 24 feet in breadth and comfortably seats 150-160 people. Before this chapel was built, the local cause met in a room above the communal bakehouse, a gable-ended cottage attached to the rear of the former chapel house, no. 9 Stepaside.

Present chapel opened New Year's Day, 1869; the architect/ builder was Mr Woolley of Llandinam: "the chapel is 27 feet in length and 24 feet in breadth and will comfortably seat from 150-160 persons" (Newtown & Welshpool Express, 12 January, 1869, quoted in Mochdre Byegones (1987). no. 3). Before the chapel was built, the local cause met in the room above the communal bakehouse, a gable-ended cottage forming part of the cottage row attached to the rear of the former chapel house, no. 9 Stepaside.
Red-brick gable-entry chapel with round-arched openings; the front gable entry with black-painted plaque in gable, picked out in white, and inscribed: "Zoar/ Wesleyan Chapel/ A D 1868"; on r.h., two steps up to doorway with plain 2-pane fanlight above late-C20 6-panel door; two sash windows, each 3-panes wide and 2-panes deep with horns, the window heads infilled and painted white. Single sash window with glazing bars and horns in r.h. return elevation. Rear vestry.
Inside, interior has been re-ordered following dry rot; photograph of old arrangement remains inside, showing pulpit between front gable windows and flanking box pews, with harmonium/ organ on l.h. of pulpit (9 Stepaside side).
9 Stepaside, formerly the chapel house, adjoins the front l.h. corner of the chapel, and faces on to the side of the grassed chapel forecourt, with 2 windows above, and with window and door below, with late-C20 changes; painted stone gable end to street.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
