- Summary: Main Independent Chapel was built in 1816 in the Vernacular style with a long-wall entry plan. It is a stone-built with a slate-roof and 1 or 2 blocked segmental openings. The north east gable has a stone chimney breast. The south east long wall has 2 nineteenth century segmental windows with openings above and stone voussoirs. The fenestration below is late twentieth century and was carried out in connection with the house conversion. The south west gable has a later twentieth century first-floor entry into the house. Main Chapel closed in 1950 and by 2002 had been converted for use as a house.

Mr John Griffiths of Cil, a lay members of the Independent Church of Montgomeryshire, built Main Chapel in 1819 "which, with the burying ground, he presented to the Indpendents. He secured to the same people a right of road to and from the chapel across the fields from the direction of Cwm, by way of Keel. He also left by his will house property near Main, towards the support of the Minister at the Main Chapel; the minister was also directed to keep a day-school in the chapel" (T G Jones, Montgomeryshire Collections, v.11 (1878), p.75). This presumably is the present chapel building at Main; it was closed in 1950 (Capeli Cymru database, NLW). It is a stone-built and slate-roofed long-wall entry chapel. The blind long wall faces north west to the to lane but has 1 or 2 blocked segmental openings. The north east gable has a stone chimney breast. The south east long wall has 2 19th century segmental window with openings above and stone voussoirs. The fenestration below is late 20th century andwas carried out in connection with the house conversion. The south west gable has later 20th century first-floor entry to the house. the interior has been altered altererd. The graveyards are both close to chapel, beyond the hedge. In 2002 it had was in use as a house.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
