- Summary: Bethlehem Baptist Chapel was first built before 1760, rebuilt in 1789, enlarged in 1817 and rebuilt as the present chapel in 1855. This chapel was built by Joshua Morris of Newport in the Simple Gothic style with a gable entry plan. Bethlehem is now Grade 2 Listed as a good and little altered chapel.

1817 built, 1855 rebuilt stone/imitation slate some render original pointed sashes with interlaced glazing bars. Bold rendered front with full height pointed recess and rectangular piers. Fine railings, gates, piers and porch with columns. Original interior of 1855. Built by Joshua Morris. Cf Solva Baptist Chapel (Built Harris & Richards). Fine rendered walled and railinged forecourt. 1993 PCNPA.
Exterior similar to the Baptist Chapel, Solva, 1863, by W Harris and J Richards, Masons, for which the Newport firm of Joshua Morris & Son were carpenters (information from Cadw list description of 14/04/1992).

Wide façade rendered with two very wide pilasters at corners that look like they have the ambition to become towers - small crenellation at the tops. Gothic style with a Gothic version of the old San Andrea arch. Add-on porch. Diamond shaped plaque in dead centre of façade, and 'Bethlehem' bent to fit the shape. Date 1855 on chapel gates in wrought iron.

The church was formed in 1795 (1998 Llawlyfr of Undeb Bedyddwyr Cymru); it was first built before 1770 (1851 R. Census) and [?re]built in 1789 (date plaque; Cadw; Anthony Jones). It was enlarged in 1817 (date plaque; Cadw; Anthony Jones), & rebuilt as the present chapel in 1855 (date plaque, Cadw, Anthony Jones, PCNPA), with Joshua ?Morris of Newport as builder; contemporary chapel gates, pulpit & organ of 1953 (Cadw). My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
