RCAHMW, November 2010 - Description: The chapel was built in 1840. It was renovated in 1865, 1883 and in 1901-3, there was some further renovation work of 1906. Built in the Simple Round-Headed style, gable entry type. Status (2000): in chapel use.
Early sub-classical gable entry with 2 entrances. Rendered stone unpainted/slate, 1840 origin. Large name plaque. Timber windows with arched tops. Forecourt with rendered walls and railings. 1993 PCNPA.
Undistinguished exterior except for the big round painted plaque.
Replied to the 1851 Census as having a congregation that varied: "sometimes a good many sailors, at other times few or none" - familiar comment from the returning officers in sailing port chapels. Renovated in 1865 for 30. Some other renovation in 1906.
The interior was of interest due to the old pulpit that had been incorporated. When the chapel was built the pulpit was high enough to allow the preacher to address the gallery - but they never added the gallery. The pulpit was therefore far too high for an ungalleried chapel. There was discussion about lowering the pulpit as some preachers did not like to ascend to such a perilous perch. But the first minister, Capt. William Evans, was an ex-sailor and he would not allow it to be lowered and while he was present no preacher dared to refuse to mount the pulpit" (Chapel History)

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
