- Summary: Libanus Congregational Chapel was built in 1862, by architect Thomas Thomas of Landore, and rebuilt in 1862. The present Chapel is built in the Classical style of the gable-entry type. The front facade design probably dates mostly from modifications made in 1916 but the recessed side windows suggest that the walls, certainly the side walls, may have been substantially built by Thomas Thomas in 1862.

The name Libanus is from a verse in 55th Chapter of Isaiah, where Carmel & Saron are mentioned together with Libanus (or Lebanon) and, geographically, Libanus stands between Saron in Ebbw Vale and Carmel in Beaufort. The name was suggested by an early deacon, David Thomas, a man of the "one book", from which he could quote readily (Alfred Jones, Libanus Congregational Church, Ebbw Vale: a short history of the Church from the year 1854 to the year 1908 (Ebbw Vale: Pr., L.P. Lewis, 1908; NLW XBX 7193 E16A (pamphlet)).

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
