General: large chapel with north lateral wall
adjacent to street. Built on slope down to S.
Recently merged with congregation of Noddfa Chapel, Crumlin.
Style - eccentric
Date 1905
Plan - rectangular
Roof - gabled with slate covering.
Walling - plain rendering with red brick quoining, jambs and buttressing. 2 dressed-stone porches on N. elevation.
Exterior:
Door and window jambs at ground-level have semi-circular arched heads with roll moulded window-jambs. Circular windows in upper areas, segmental headed windows in basement area. All have frosted glass. There is a moulded brick cornice.
Main façade - W. gable end - 3 tier with 4 shallow buttresses. Basement level - 2 small infilled centre windows with segmental heads and brick string-course above.
Ground-floor level - group of 3 small windows in centre with iron glazing-bars. 2 slightly larger windows on the outer sides.
Upper- level: large central semi-circular 3 light window with stone-mullions, timber glazing-bars, flat chamfering and tracery.
There is an erroded stone plaque below the apex.
South elevation: 3 tier, 5 rendered buttresses.
Basement - 5 infilled window openings. Double ledged doors with fanlight at W. side. Single door on E. side.
Ground-floor - 8 small 4 light windows in groups of 2, with timber glazing-bars.
Upper level - 4 circular windows with 4 lights.
North elevation - 3 tier, 5 brick buttresses.
Basement level - 4 infilled windows.
Ground-level - 4 small windows in 2 sets of 2.
Upper-level - 4 circular windows.
Main porch - located at the W. end, with gabled roof. Double ledged doors, ornate strap hinges, with fanlight and tracery and a moulded brick
hood and architrave.
There is an eroded foundation stone inscribed Cori Esq JP 1905
Gabled stair-turret at the E. side with a pair of infilled windows.
Interior:
Hallway - located at W. side, formed by inner N-S cross-wall below gallery.
Inner panelled double-door with frosted glass.
Walling - painted rendered, plain dado rail.
Floor timber with carpet.
Ceiling - lath and plaster with moulded cornice and beams.
Closed string balustered stairs to gallery at N. and S. ends.
There are panelled doors at each outer side of the cross-wall leading into the chapel area.
Chapel area:
Wall fabric - painted rendering without dado rail.
Floor - t & g boarding.
Ceiling: Main ceiling - lath and plaster. 3 hammer-beam trusses - flat chamfered purlins and trusses. 4 square centre vents with ornate cast-iron panels.
There is a suspended fibre-board ceiling at gallery level.
Stained-glass - none, all glass is frosted.
Pulpit - large rectangular structure against the E. gable wall. There is a semi-circular headed reredos recess behind the pulpit with a cross and inscription 'Pray for the peace of Jerusalem'.
The pulpit surround has moulded timber panelling with a moulded rail on ornate iron standards and a fixed lectern.
There is a stair with iron balusters on each side of the pulpit.
Baptistry - under pulpit - timber with lead lining.
Infront of the pulpit there is a raised platform with a moulded rail and ornate standards.
Great seat - original seat stolen. There are now 3 modern chairs under the pulpit with a small communion table infront.
Organ - Modern electronic located on the S. side of the pulpit. The original 'Pensylvania' American organ was located in the W. gallery.
Pews - Pitch-pine, raked open-bench type.
Gallery - U shaped on N.S. & E. elevations - with a modern suspended ceiling. Supported by large beams with flat chamfers and 7 plain cast-iron pillars with moulded capitals.
Gallery frontage - painted timber panelling with ornate iron panels above.
Raked pews steped up towords W. gable.
Vestry - small corner room on the N. side of the pulpit.
School-room - located in basement area reached by a balustraded stair in the S-E corner.
There is a cross-partition towords the E. side of the area which forms a kitchen. The partition also marks the extent of a raised platform area, and forms a full stage on the W. schoolroom side.
Ceiling - the main area has a lath and plaster ceilng with 2 cross-beams supported by 6 plain cast pillars with moulded capitals.
Walling - painted rendering with a plain dado rail.

My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website.
