- Summary: Albert Road Methodist Chapel was built in 1906 by architect Henry Budgen of Cardiff. It is built in the Gothic style with a gable-entry plan and integral tower (although the tower has lost its original pinnacles which had become unsafe). Albert Road replaced Arcot Street Chapel (NPRN 10001). In 1942 the main schoolroom (used a a Forces canteen) was destroyed by fire and then rebuilt within the shell in 1957. Following a fall in membership, this schoolroom was adapted for use as a worship hall in 1974 (with a small sanctuary with folding doors) and in 1980 the former chapel became a community centre. The chapel furniture was removed and a first floor inserted at gallery level. The organ was transferred to Brunswick Church, Swansea (?), the 'east' window given to a church in Canada and offices inserted into the 'west' gallery.

In 2007 the rear of the building was extensively refurbished to provide a modern multi-purpose church hall.
Denominational website, 2010 - Description: Built in 1906, architect H.Budgen of Cardiff (cost £14,977). Built in the Gothic style, gable entry type. A prominent feature of this Chapel is the integral tower, although the tower has lost its original pinnacles which ha become unsafe. Present status [1998]: Chapel
It was opened in 1907 (architect Henry Budgen, who also designed Trinity and various others locally) to replace Arcot Street Chapel (opened 1864, burned down 1905 - photos extant); a splendid Edwardian design seating 750 with 3 sided gallery, deep sanctuary and stained glass 'East' window. Behind were extensive schoolroom facilities in a large hall (with gallery) and smaller rooms. In 1942 the main schoolroom (used a a Forces canteen) was destroyed by fire (photos), and rebuilt within the shell in 1957. As a result of a drop in membership, the schoolroom was adapted for use as a worship hall in 1974 (with a small sanctuary with folding doors) and in 1980 the former chapel became a community centre. The furniture was removed, a first floor was inserted at gallery level, the organ transferred to Brunswick Church, Swansea (I think), the 'east' window given to a church in Canada, and offices inserted into the 'west' gallery. In 1981 a small schoolroom became a weekday chapel.
Some plans survive, together with various exterior photos and a sketch of the interior.

Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
Saira
