- Summary: Nebo Methodist Chapel was first built in 1788, rebuilt in 1823 and renovated in 1878. Nebo closed in 1966 and has since been converted into flats.
RCAHMW, March 2010 - Description: Chapel first built 1787-8; rebuilt/modified 1823/5 & renovated 1878. Closed C20. Greatly modified. Status (1999): other (converted to flats).
Rectangular Calvinistic Methodist chapel converted into block of flats. Exterior and interior substantially altered. Orientation of chapel: northeast - southwest. Projecting wing arranged transversly across north-east gable end of chapel, to form a "T", contains converted schoolroom at north-west end and old chapel house to the south east. Rendered stacks. Replacement windows. Both chapel and school/chapel-house wing have pitched slate roofs with ceramic ridge tiles, and pebble-dashed elevations. Entrance front of chapel formerly south-west gable. Modern fenestration probably indicates position of original long windows flanking central gabled porch. Porch is no longer in use as an entrance, the doorway was probably in the south-west front of the porch. High projecting chamfered plinth to either side of central porch returned to sides of main façade. Along south-east and north-west sides 4 original long window openings are indicated by the modern fenestration and doorways.
Concreted level area surrounds chapel.

I grew up in the chapel house (Ty Capel) which we moved to in about 1975 when I was a small boy. The chapel conversion was, at best, unsympathetic. I remember my father cursing at the thick stone walls when he was trying to drill to fit shelves, and that was the later, eastern extension of the chapel house. I have spent the last 20 years as a professional archaeologist- I’m sure growing up in a historic building contributed to that – I was certainly fascinated by the slate plaque recording the history of the building.
Hello
My great great grandparents were married in Kinnerton Chapel in Old Radnor on 21st May1850. I have been searching for information on the Chapel, so was pleased to find this website. I have now located it on Google Street View – looks like someone is ‘doing it up’ to live in: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.2612635,-3.1095337,3a,90y,232.95h,84.26t/data=!3m9!1e1!3m7!1s-8DWPORkq2RFVNXBLde_-g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656!9m2!1b1!2i53?hl=en-GB
The marriage record of my ancestors Abraham Bounds and Elizabeth Williams is attached. I hope it is of interest.
All the best
